Sociology Research

Arsenii Khitrov holds BA and MA degrees from Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he studied philosophy and specialised in the early modern philosophy of mind and early modern cultural history. He went on to receive another MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Sheffield. Before embarking on a PhD at the University of Cambridge, Arsenii also taught and conducted research in cultural and media studies at the Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) for five years.

Research Interests

Arsenii Khitrov’s current research focuses on the production of American politically- and socially-themed television series. He seeks to answer the question of how political and social experts provide television makers with their knowledge. Arsenii’s theoretical approach is based on Bourdieu’s field theory and sociology of expertise. An examination of political and social experts' roles in cultural production will help tackle broader questions about how symbolic power and legitimacy of the state are sustained, and, by implication, how the social order is reproduced.
