Sociology Research

Shaaroni (she/her) is a PhD candidate working under the supervision of Dr Manali Desai and Dr. Mwenza Blell. She holds a B.S. in Journalism and an M.Ed. in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, both from Boston University. Most recently, Shaaroni completed an MPhil in Education Research from the University of Cambridge during which she researched how multi-ethnic educators view their cultural identities and how that reflects in their teaching.

Prior to reading for her MPhil, Shaaroni worked as a teacher in her home of Honolulu, Hawai’i and served as an education officer and crew member on some legs of the Hōkūle’a voyaging canoe’s ‘Worldwide Voyage.’
Through her PhD research, Shaaroni seeks to connect her lived experiences as a multi-ethnic woman raised amongst indigenous Hawaiian culture, her work as an educator, and her past studies.
