Sociology Research

 

Xiaokun Sun is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology and a member of Downing College at the University of Cambridge. She works under the supervision of Dr Ella McPherson. Her research focuses on the dynamics of environmentalism in the digital age. The research seeks to analyse the role of social networking media in facilitating environmentalism in China. To be specific, she aims to critically assess how social media is used differently by professional environmental NGOs and loosely organised local communities in environmental campaigns/movements.

Xiaokun received her MPhil in Modern Society and Global Transformations in Sociology from the University of Cambridge. Before her MPhil in Cambridge, she graduated with a Bachelor (First Class Honours) in International Communications at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC).

Research Interests

Xiaokun is interested in media sociology, new media and politics. She is particularly interested in exploring how social media is embedded within different political and social frameworks.
