Sociology Research

 

Ryan Smith is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology funded by the Stephen Toope Studentship. His research focuses on Britain’s socioeconomic inequalities in mental health and explores how a fragmented, neoliberal society impacts people’s well-being.

Ryan holds an MPhil in Sociology from Cambridge and a BA (Hons) in Political Science and International Relations from Birmingham, where he ranked first in his cohort. Before returning to pursue a PhD, he worked for the Labour Party, where he organised and led winning election campaigns.
