Hao is a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge. Her research examines the role of childbearing in China, with a particular focus on how cultural norms and individual agency intersect in fertility decisions. Hao's work is situated within the broader context of recent changes in China’s family planning policy and aims to provide a deeper understanding of how Chinese young women navigate their life journey through contemporary cultural and policy dynamics. Hao has previously conducted research on international student immigration and higher education, focusing on the intersectional experience of Chinese students in UK universities. Before her PhD, Hao studied at University College London and worked at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University.
