Sociology Research

 

Margaret is a Kenyan Doctoral Scholar researching on maternal and child health. Her research project entails assessing the impact of education on care and feeding practices of preterm and low birth weight infants in Kenya. The findings will provide a guideline for developing education modules that will potentially enrich the Essential Education Package on care and feeding practices received by all mothers during ante- and post-natal clinic visits.

She holds a BSc. degree (Honors) in Food Nutrition and Dietetics, and a MSc. degree in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Nairobi. She taught at the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology in the same university for two years. Alongside this she has been a peer reviewer for the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development since 2016. She has also worked as a food and nutrition security consultant on various projects with different development partners, including World Vision and Caritas Burundi as well as the Australian-African Universities Partnership Research Development Fund. 

Research Interests

Maternal infant and young child nutrition, integrated management of acute malnutrition, nutrition assessment counseling and support, micronutrients, nutrition advocacy, nutrition in emergencies, logistics management information system, and food and nutrition security.
