Research Projects

Nadia's Doctoral Project: A Comparative Institutional Analysis of the Chinese Opera Sectors in Mainland China and Hong Kong

The study examines how the revitalisation of traditional culture takes different forms in two societies that shared identical cultural root yet underwent dissimilar paths of social development. It zeros in on the divergent developments of Chinese opera in mainland China and Hong Kong, which have experienced similar tensions that arise from competing interpretations of their traditions but have elicited different patterns of cultural hybridisation in their Chinese opera sector.

Past Projects as a Research Assistant at HKU:
1) The Development of Chinese Opera in Hong Kong since the 1920s (2021 – 2023)

2) Capturing the Moments of Living in Hong Kong’s Public Housing: A Record and Analysis of the Use of Home Space with Three-dimensional Techniques (2021 – 2022)

3) Art Engagement in Documenting the Disappearing Wah Fu Estate (2021 – 2022)

4) Everyday Space and Memory at Wah Fu Estate: Recording and Envisioning the Daily Life of Public Estate Residents in Hong Kong (2020 – 2021)
